1.      Manual Transmission: The manual transmission is the oldest type of transmission still in use, and its simplicity virtually guarantees forever relevance. From there, the fixed gears are actuated by a synchronizing fork and gearbox. The clutch works to separate the engine from the transmission, so gear changes may occur. When the driver releases the clutch pedal, the flywheel and the thrust plate meet, allowing the engine to rotate the transmission flywheels. 
2.      Automatic Transmission: this is almost a mirror image of a manual at that, but the manual has a lot of features and a single input, a combo operation that provides a lot of clutter and just one or two sheets.
